Rock 'n Roll the fuck out.

September 11–October 18, 2008
West Coast Premiere
Rock 'n' Roll
by Tom Stoppard
Directed by Carey Perloff

A rapturous, decades-spanning tale of Prague's rock revolution, Tom Stoppard's Rock 'n' Roll follows the passions and politics of a Marxist professor in Cambridge and his Rolling Stones–obsessed protégé fighting for freedom in Soviet-dominated Prague. Nominated for four 2008 Tony Awards, Rock 'n' Roll pulsates to the beat of the Stones, Pink Floyd, and Syd Barrett, Floyd's disturbed genius, whose reclusive life becomes a haunting motif of the play.

"Triumphant . . . Stoppard's finest play"
The New York Times

*SO I saw this lovely piece of shit play, and the only thing I enjoyed was the soundtrack of classic rock playing during the scene changes. I don't want to hear a crappy dude rant about how politics influence music in real life, let alone a play. At least in real life I can pretened like I'm listening, smile and nod, and continue to scam on other crappy dudes.

It also could have been that I was so distracted by our crew talking and laughing the whole time, and getting evil eyes from other play-goers. We ended up leaving a third of the way in, only to gather in the theatre bar and be judged as "first years" by an older, harsh faced woman. Good thing I got the tickets for free.
