Rude or Real?

What

do

YOU

think?

Monogramed house slippers to a premier? Really?

Fave Fails.

This is what moving to LA was like. Seriously.

RMBR WHN?

REMEMBER WHEN you dreamt of 'candy coated rain drops' and boy bands were super appealing? I choreographed dances to Soul For Real with my friends for most of the early 90s, I believe. Remember how excited you would get when they would play these songs on the radio, or at a school dance?

I do.

I attended Fuck Yeah Fest earlier this month, and I have to say, I was blown away by the people watching. It was almost better than the bands. (Well it was def better than Glass Candy- she thrives in a club, fades in a field)

I have never seen so many young well dressed people, in one confined space. The trend spotting was out of control. About a fourth of the crowd walked straight out of an American Aparell add, but the rest got creative. I sat on a hill in the beer garden for most of the time I was there, and just watched. (And sang Shakira's 'She Wolf' with Devin and Jack, but that's beside the point)

Musically speaking, it was eh. Peanut Butter Wolf was good. Converge was good. Black Lips were better.

Next year, I will try to pull my ass of the pub hill. It's a promise.

She Gets Around!

DRAGONETTE is playing @the Echo on 10/23, according to her MySpace.
This is a must-see for me.

Listen to my FAVE song of hers (well my favorite remix to be exact):

I Get Around - Dragonette

Man Boot

Frye, you've done it again. This is the chillest man boot of the season.

 DEVIN, get on it.

Friday Night

Status Update of the Day

Mission Dolores Park - looking forward to seeing some of you this weekend.

Saint Motel

I saw Saint Motel play at Spaceland last Monday... and they put on a really good show. Their debut EP is titled "For Play" and I highly recommend you give it a go!

Listen UP!

Show Me Where You Want It - Saint Motel

Truthbomb.

Cheese Please!

The Grilled Cheese Truck will be melting through Los Angeles very soon... BUT WHEN!?! The LA Times blog reported it would be oozing around in early October. I need a date for said oozing.

LOLZ

What I'm Doing This W/E

I get to go see Bon Iver play a sunrise show at Hollwood Forever Cemetary. Jealous?

TRON:Legacy

As a child, I LOVED the movie Tron- of course I did, I was a baby club kid. I also wore dayGLO and danced to the Jets and Madonna. Lets be real.

I am VERY excited for Disney's Tron:Legacy, which will be in 3D! AND Jeff Bridges is baaack!

THE BEST PART though, is that Daft Punk is scoring the film. According to Movieline, some nerd at Comicon asked Director Joseph Kosinski if Daft Punk would be touring their soundtrack- and he replied that "there would definitely be Daft Punk Tron-themed events on the horizon." SWEET.

Who wants to place bets on the questionable surge of extacy dealers loitering outside of movie theaters in 2010??

Where The Wild Things Are

This move looks SO unbelievable. I can hardly stand it.

This might also be the best movie & soundtrack match...ever. Karen O create the film's original music alongside composer Carter Burwell (with some help from Deerhunter/Atlas Sound frontman Bradford Cox and Yeah Yeah Yeahs/Folk Implosion collaborator Imaad Wasif).

RMBR WHN?

REMEMBER WHEN... Gap Commercials were f'ing awesome three years ago?? They featured hip artists and celebs like Common, Daft Punk, Juliette Lewis, Peaches and Claire Danes??

I do.

The Drums

DWNLD "Lets Go Surfing" now, if only for the sweet "Down Down Baby, Down By The Rollercoaster" bridge. Brings me back to 3rd grade. It would bring me back even more if I grew up in Santa Cruz.

The Knight School RMX is pretty good too- they get Down Down Baby right away with that stellar bridge. It also sounds a little edgier, which I think is a good thing.

Slow Poison

I have always loved The Bravery. Slow Poison is their latest single, and it's pretty good. It's no Honest Mistake, but I feel they are pulling away from their old dancy ways, and breaking into some synth rock territory. Thats fine, we need more of that anyway.

Give it a listen:

Slow Poison - The Bravery

I Want This NOW

The Calvinizer

You too, can be as cool as Calvin Harris. Just CALVINIZE yourself!

Rude or Real?

What do YOU think?

XOXO

Spotted: Tired casting for Gossip Girl. The Duffster.

Anto

Meet Anto.

This Greek Swede is a year younger than I, and much more the wiser. According to his MySpace, he sounds like, "Electro-Music vs. a Nintendo-console in mating season..."

It's true. Looks like Paris isn't the only region for synthy love-thumping magic.

'Fantasy' is one of my favorites, and his remix of Digitalism's 'Taken Away' is realllllly goooood.

Expect big things from this one. He's a keeper.

Green Label Giveaways

I got turned on to Green Label Sound because they are letting you download the new Chromeo single, 'Night by Night' for free... CHILL. Once I got to the site, I played around for at least 40 mins. They are letting you not only download the new Chromeo, but you can download songs from several other artists, along with remixes from some heavy hitters.

Check out the site to dwnld tunes from Matt & Kim, Amazing Baby, Holy Ghost!, The Cool Kids, and more.

Monday

"You Know I'm Crazy For Those Cupcakes Cousin!"

A Magnolia Bakery is coming to LA!!!!

The location is rumored to be at West 3rd Street and Orlando Avenue, near the Beverly Center. The NYC bakery’s PR confirms that Magnolia is in fact expanding to Los Angeles, however, is not at this time confirming the location.

For those of you who might not be aware, Magnolia Bakery is credited with starting the "Cupcake Craze".

ANY girl my age will remember Carrie eating them in Sex and The City...

... or their mention in the SNL Digital Short, "Lazy Sunday".

I am a major cupcake fan, so I am quite elated to hear the news :)

Rude or Real?

What do YOU think?

An Elephant in the Room...duh.

So I just finished watching Russel Brand's stand up special for Comedy Central. It was pretty 'cheeky' if you will... I very much enjoyed it. He talked a bunch about his hosting the 2008 VMA's... specifically about the below promo. I remember seeing these, and not even getting the most obvious joke. Fail for me.

Crappy Wedding Dances

Crappy home video's of 'funny surprise' choreographed wedding dances seem to be all the rage. However, most of them are gross, especially the Father Daughter dances involving a lame country song which then bursts into Soulja Boy, "Supermanning that Hoe"

This one dance in particular though, I respect. They got the choreography right, and the entrance is pretty clever. And its to MJ, so you can't go wrong there. Good tunes, moves, and no creepy insestual overtones. Win.

DJ Hero

OH brother, this just made my day. DJ Hero (aka my soon-to-be-all-time-favorite-video-game-ever) just announced that Daft Punk will be letting the game use them as avatars, as well as use their music! FUCKING RAD.

The chillest part? Game Modes: DJ vs. DJ, DJ + DJ, DJ + Guitar

Click here for an example of what the game will look/sound like!

Santa Monica, CA – September 14, 2009 – For the first time ever in a video game, GRAMMY® Award winning DJ’s and producing duo, Daft Punk, will start the party right with Activision Publishing, Inc.’s (Nasdaq: ATVI) DJ Hero™ on October 27, 2009. Featuring 93 exclusive on-disc mixes from some of the biggest acts in hip-hop, pop, rock and dance, players will be able to test their DJing chops as virtual recreations of the renowned twosome and experience their iconic sounds in eleven original mixes, including two signature "Megamixes,” using their music. Among the mixes in the game featuring Daft Punk are:

Daft Punk "Around the World” vs. Young MC "Bust A Move”
Daft Punk "Da Funk” vs. NASA "Strange Enough ft. Karen O, ODB and Fatlip”
Daft Punk "Da Funk” vs. Queen "Another One Bites the Dust”
Daft Punk "Robot Rock” vs. Hashim "Al-Naafiysh (The Soul)” – Produced and mixed by The Scratch Perverts
Daft Punk "Robot Rock” vs. Queen "We Will Rock You”
Daft Punk "Short Circuit” vs. Boogie Down Productions "Jack Of Spades”
Daft Punk "Technologic” vs. Gary Numan "Cars”
Daft Punk "Television Rules The Nation” vs. No Doubt "Hella Good”

Bella Good Soundtrack.

Is anyone else really surprised by this? I can't decide if this is a good or a bad thing... now gazillions of tweenage girls will be introduced to Bon Iver, Thom Yorke and Grizzly Bear. I'm going with bad thing. I just don't want to deal with Edward lovers at shows...

Here is the track list:

01 Death Cab For Cutie - "Meet Me On The Equinox"
02 Band Of Skulls - "Friends"
03 Thom Yorke- "Hearing Damage"
04 Lykke Li - "Possibility"
05 The Killers - "A White Demon Love Song"
06 Anya Marina - "Satellite Heart"
07 Muse - "I Belong To You (New Moon Remix)"
08 Bon Iver and St. Vincent - "Rosyln"
09 Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - "Done All Wrong"
10 Hurricane Bells - "Monsters"
11 Sea Wolf - "The Violet Hour"
12 Ok Go- "Shooting The Moon"
13 Grizzly Bear - "Slow Life"
14 Editors - "No Sound But The Wind"
15 Alexandre Desplat - "New Moon (The Meadow)"

The mere fact that it is hitting Hot Topics' nation wide on 10/20 grosses me out.

Music Videos YMWN #2

Music videos are one of my favorite things, ever.

Unfortunately, I have not been keeping up on viewing vids from my favorite artists over the past few years... I've been getting into randomly looking thru my iTunes, and then searching for the matching vids. It's been fun... and sometimes painful. There are some pretty awful vids out there. So I like to give credit to those I like.... SO for another installment of Music Videos YMWN:

Wednesday

HOT BAND ALERT: Those Dancing Days

This chic quintet from Sweeden will not only make you smitten merely based on appearance, but their sound is delightfully pop, with a touch of soul. These girls are trouble...

This is my fave track off the alb, "Those Dancing Days"

Those Dancing Days - Those Dancing Days

Here is their video for 'Hitten'

....and because I love a good cover, this is the girls covering Britney's 'Toxic'

Toxic (live Britney Spears cover) - Those Dancing Days

...and here they are as the Spice Girls. I love them.
