COACHELLA 2009

I am stoaked. Here is a listing of why:
-A Beatle.
-Fucking Morrissey.
-Still haven't seen Franz Ferdinand, and have been jealous of Ralotay's (my new nickname for Rachel & Palotay) FF story from Coachella '06.
-Beirut.
-The Black Keys.
-This will be my 3rd time seeing Girl Talk, and will for sure be the sweatiest.
-Second Time seeing the Ting Tings, but this will for sure be a longer set, and they mos def had one of my fave albums of 2008.
-I've heard Ghostland Observatory is stellar live, and now I'll get to agree with that.
-FUCKING CRYSTAL CASTLES! I'll get to see the 'coolest' person of 2008 in PERSON!
-N.A.S.A (If they play their remixes)
-My favorite Aussies, THE PRESETS!
-Felix da Housecat will be fantastic in the Sahara Tent.
-Peanut Butter Wolfe is fun as shit.
-I ♥ Steve Aoki.
-The Aggrolites are chill.
-My brother is obsessed w/ People Under the Stairs, so I'll send him one of those annoying concert-calls, where you can only hear a loud static and random yelps.
-Amy Winehouse was rad in '07, and hopefully she will fall back into the bottle, for entertainment purposes.
-TV on the Radio will be insane.
-FUCKING BAND OF HORSES will always make me weak.
-Fleet Foxes.
-This will be my 5th time seeing MSTRKRFT, so I'll be sure to wear my mask & wear the gloves they gave me as a present :)
-FUCKING SLUGGGGGGGGGGG! I love Atmosphere, FOREVER.
-Hercules and Love Affair (and Antony has to be there, bc Antony & the Johnsons are also playing!!!)
-I missed the Blitzen Trapper show at the Independent, and I love me some indie-country-rock!
-Gang Gang Dance has been showing up on blogs all over NY. They were supposedly one of the best shows of '08.
-If I hear Love Cats, I will die. I know its not the best song by the Cure, but I will still die.
-KAREN O is my favorite rock star.
-Never seen Peter Bjorn and John-- and their last album is the catchiest ever.
-Lykke Li is fairy like. And I want to see what she wears.
-Groove Armada!
-The Kills are rad.
-Clipse? Might there be a Pharell Williams sighting?
-Late of the Pier is one of my new favorite bands :)
-Junior Boys in the Sahara Tent is going to be rediculous.
-DJ Marshall Barnes??

536th most popluar!

Lindsay
There are 97,820 people in the U.S. with the first name Lindsay.
Statistically the 536th most popular first name.
93.75 percent of people with the first name Lindsay are female.

'Lindsay'is the masculine spelling. How sad that only 6.25% of those who share my name are male.

Women are taking over.

Year of the OX.

Pragmatic and down-to-earth, Ox people are motivated to work hard and have no respect for lazy or careless people. Although they can be easily trusted and find it easy to put trust in others, they are not dependent on friends and family and would rather find an answer or a solution themselves than to ask these people for help or guidance. However, others can, without a doubt rely on Oxen, who are always honest and meticulous about their responsibilities. While they do not feel the need for many distant or acquaintance-oriented friendships, they value the strong bonds they share with their partners and families, and make close friends that last a lifetime.

Though they are quite open-minded, once Ox people have made a decision about something, they rarely change it. This is a defining characteristic that can be seen as obstinacy, but it is actually the way an Ox learns to be strong, brave and straightforward. It is the way the Ox learned to take on tasks and responsibilities and how he learns to be reliable for others. Oxen are more comfortable with the well known as opposed to the unfamiliar. Yet, beneath their unpretentious, tranquil exterior lies a heart of gold and a motivation to prosper.

LIKES AND DISLIKES
The Ox is a lover of stability, a great traditionalist and a homemaker. Rarely would you expect an Ox person to be an extrovert pleasure-seeker. They are happiest in the peace of their own home territory.

Oxen Like:
Color Preference: Violet
Gems and Stones: Jade, Emerald, Moss-Agate, Lapis-Lazuli
Suitable Gifts: Kitchen accessories, gardening and planting books, cookbooks, bonsai trees
Hobbies and Pastimes: Body-Building, Baking, Gardening, Listening to music, Sewing
Oxen Dislike: Making small talk, foolish games, feeling insecure

*Note to self: If I meet a body-building cook who won't ask for directions and hates foolish games- he may be an OX, and therefore will clash with my pleasure-seeking ways.

Ha Ha Hah.

One positive aspect: I can now make unemployment jokes, and it's even more acceptable for me to find them funny.

Bah.

BAH. Like I could stay in hiding.

A girl after my own heart...

*I fell in love with this little girl a few months ago. Some genius decided to show the comparison. I have to say, she's got it down. Now imagine that it is Madonna in the video, and me as a two year old. There are old dusty home videos in my Mothers garage that could dangerously be used as blackmail...

**Actually, just imagine this is the 'Slave 4 U' video, and I am teaching Ginger & Andriana how to do the dances circa 2002. That's even more redic.

A Facebook Note.

21 Random Things:

1. I am obsessed with music.
2. My favorite sandwich is: fresh mozzarella, prosciutto, avocado & the works on sourdough.

7. I will go to Coachella every year until I have babies. Then it's just not appropriate.

9. I have 4 siblings. One blood brotha, one half-brother, one half-sister, one step sister.
10. I go through creative outbursts- and will randomly on a Tudesday be up till 4am making headbands/cards/collages/painting/cooking/decorating or crafting something.
11. I lost my father when I was 9, but continue to be inspired by him every day.
12. I have a 3 year old cat named Mr. Bojangles, and I love him dearly.

As Tall As Lions!!!!

I have not been as excited for a show ALL YEAR... well we are only twenty-two days in, but I haven't been this stoaked in a while. An amazing indie/ambient/rock band from NY, As Tall As Lions, is playing in February at Bottom of the Hill. This band is the kind you want to listen to when you are in the best AND worst of moods. I highly suggest that you get your asses there. They are also playing with The Soft White Sixties, who I had the pleasure to see live recently.

Listen to & get MP3's of my two faves by them: 'Into the Flood' and 'Ghosts of York'

And buy your tix!

T.I.'s Reality Show Will Scare You Straight
Somebody's got to tell these kids to stop buying machine guns...

You have to love T.I.'s lawyers. The guy gets himself caught trying to buy machine guns and silencers, and his attorneys somehow turned that into a one-year sentence and 1000 hours of community service even though he's a convicted felon. And now, Tip is turning all that community service time into a new reality show, just so it doesn't, you know, go to waste.

To be fair, "Road to Redemption: 45 Days to Go," the MTV "docu-reality" show that will chronicle T.I.'s last days of freedom, 25th Hour-stye, won't count toward his community service hours. It also stands to be the rare musician-based reality series that isn't completely shrill and embarrassing, partly because T.I. has a vast reservoir of natural charm and partly because it won't be showing him in fat camp or whatever.

The series will follow T.I. fulfilling those community service hours, as well as spending time with his family and recording Paper Trail. The first episode of "Road to Redemption" will air on MTV at 9 p.m. on February 10.

New Slang. So Chill.

NEW SLANG
FROM POVO AND MYSELFISH TO RETOX AND 'KWARD, THE TERMS TO KNOW FOR 2009

While we understand the fleeting nature of slang and promise we are not "trying to make 'fetch' happen," each year ushers in a bevy of new words you might hear and may even want to use (though we urge you to do so sparingly). 2009 introduces us to a vocabulary inspired by pop culture and technology, and here are a few of the favorites heard from the streets, our bloggers, and Gen Ys who know...

RECESSION-INSPIRED SLANG

Povo (po-vo)
adj. Spawned from the increasing popularity of new HBO series Summer Heights High, the Aussie slang for poor has infiltrated the vocabulary of recessionistas everywhere
"Caroline, I can't go out to dinner tonight: My pay cut has left me totally povo."

RELATIONSHIP SLANG

Ex-hole
n. Your ex boyfriend/girlfriend who dumped you via Post-it/text/drop-off-the-face-of-the-earth-disappearing-act and who is now flouncing around town with a new love interest
"I bumped into my ex-hole this morning - she said she was so sorry that she cheated on me, blah blah blah. I wanted to puke."

Cupcake

v. To stay home with your boyfriend/girlfriend to cuddle
"It's raining and cold outside; I think I'll skip the bars and cupcake tonight."

Hot Room
n. A social setting that involves a mix of people whose relationships to each other are, well, complicated
"I was sitting next to my current flame and then my ex-hole walked in with his current girlfriend, who I had a falling out with in high school - total hot room!"

DIGITAL SLANG

Pwn (pone)
v. To "power own" something or someone. Derived years ago from World of Warcraft smack talk, this slang has been adopted throughout other online games, and has since surfaced in the mainstream real world
"I pwn-ed Stephen last night in Wii Tennis."

Epic Fail
n. A frequently used term in the video game community that quite simply means you really messed up and/or something/someone is an utter failure
"Dude, your attempt to get that girl's number was an epic fail."

Geequals
n. Two people who are equal in depth of arcane knowledge
"I knew I had met my geequal when Frank showed me his Star Wars light saber iPhone app."

Myselfish
adj. A term used to describe people's need for recognition and self-fulfillment via the Internet. This is accomplished with incessant Facebook status updates and TMI-Twitter feeds, and serves the purpose of making one feel important and/or noticed
"My friends consider my need to Twitter detailed accounts of my trips to Trader Joe's, the gas station, and my opinions on anything, really, to be annoyingly myselfish. I consider it shameless self-promotion!"

THIS YEAR'S REHAB
Retox (ree-tox)
v. To go back on your New Year's resolutions and do the opposite of the goals you set for yourself
"Instead of following my resolution to get fit this year, I decided to retox and take up cooking classes instead. Oh well, no one follows New Year's resolutions anyway, right?"

Smashed Potatoes
adj. Drunk, inebriated, similar to the term "hot mess"
"Sorry I bailed without saying good night, but I was smashed potatoes."

STREET SLANG
Hate-cation
n. Taking a vacation from being a hater where you are committed to not saying anything bad about anyone or anything; synonymous with "moral cleanse"
"Whatever, I know you have an opinion but just can't speak your mind because you are on a hate-cation."

Obama/Not Obama
adj. London street reporters proclaim that our new President has become synonymous with "cool"
"Yeah, that is so Obama!"

Alt-worthy
adj. A term used to describe people or things considered to be cool or trendy
"The pop-up art gallery on Elizabeth Street is alt-worthy."

'Kward (kwerd)
adj. Awkward
"Whoa, that conversation was very 'kward."

Churches Under the Stairs

Broken Social Scene Presents Brendan Canning - Churches Under The Stairs

1/20/2009

"For we know that our patchwork heritage is a strength, not a weakness. We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus -- and non-believers. We are shaped by every language and culture, drawn from every end of this Earth; and because we have tasted the bitter swill of civil war and segregation, and emerged from that dark chapter stronger and more united, we cannot help but believe that the old hatreds shall someday pass; that the lines of tribe shall soon dissolve; that as the world grows smaller, our common humanity shall reveal itself; and that America must play its role in ushering in a new era of peace."

Hard Times Handbook

So as some of you know, I recently found out that I will be unemployed by the end of the month. Laid off, if you will. I have been knee deep in researching how to be a gypsy, while still keeping my fabulous apartment & lifestyle here in San Francisco, so I will keep you posted on my success stories. And if I throw some story your way about how "My pregnant wife and I are trying to catch the bus up to Sonoma, and our car broke down, and all we need is like, $9 for the tickets man..." just go with it, OK? I am trying to stay as positive as possible, and look for the silver lining... bleh.

Here is something all young San Franciscan's can find useful... The Guardian put together the Hard Times Handbook, a guide to free food, music, and movies in SF. Cheap drinks, dates, and dining. Plus much, much more in their guide to surviving these tough times...
